EVENTS AND NEWS

  • Volunteers create reef ball molds for release off Cape Fear

Volunteers from the local Bonefish Grill teamed up with the Reef Ball Foundation to assemble and create reef ball molds for release off Cape Fear. The process for the reef ball creation involved mold assembly, concrete mixing and pouring into the mold, mold disassembly, and clean up.

Each reef ball mold created will provide a habitat to support 300 pounds of biomass per year – one-third of which is fish life, and the rest is marine life that supports fish life (algae, crustaceans, coral, oysters, etc). The reef ball molds are expected to last 500 years.
